John’s first foray into complex negotiations was working with masters of the trade as they negotiated the disarmament of the Khmer Rouge.
Finding a talent, John followed a 20+ year career in the Army with an equal career in industry as a consultant, with a talent for fixing problem projects, and as a GM for companies such as Hewlett Packard where he managed a business across Asia and Japan. He launched Kiah as a consultancy focussed on the better delivery of public services through working with both the public and private sectors – and at the junction of the two.
He has managed programs from a few million dollars to in excess of a billion, and as diverse as flying a satellite, oil and gas facility remediation, through to catering for the Australian Forces in Afghanistan.
John has sought to apply practice with theory holding multiple tertiary qualifications in science and management, and his studies taking him as far as Edinburgh and Harvard Universities. He is also a Graduate of the AICD program, a Fellow of AIML and a nationally accredited mediator.
His presentations are littered with practical examples of what works and what doesn’t – drawn from nearly forty years of dealing with the complex and the intractable.
Johnathon Holmes
Director
Johnathon is a disciplined and high performing professional with 20 years’ experience within private enterprise and Government. He has considerable expertise in managing operations and delivering complex projects associated with the optimisation of enterprise level operating models, the establishment of shared service models and the management of rapid and complex capability development initiatives.
Johnathon has broad experience facilitating, designing and implementing operational capabilities within government and commercial organisations and a proven ability to deliver in complex and politically sensitive environments. His specific expertise is assisting organisations solve their most complex problems by aligning their strategies, capabilities, processes and relationships and building governance and assurance frameworks to ensure ongoing quality and the achievement of tangible and sustainable returns on investment.
Julie Kingston
Consultant
Julie is a skilled strategic planner with a strong foundation in logistics and supply chain management. Logistics is fundamentally about problem solving, usually complicated by having limited resources that need to be distributed to distant locations within a defined timeframe.
Having completed over 20 years in the Army she has embarked on her consulting journey helping organisations and departments to solve the right problem. She has experience facilitating, designing, and implementing strategies for organisations with a proven ability to deliver in complex environments. Her expertise is assisting organisations to understand complex problems, integrating solutions and achieving holistic outcomes at the strategic level.
Julie has sought to apply practice with theory holding multiple tertiary qualifications in science, management and operations. Her studies help her to draw on multi-disciplinary examples to ensure that her courses achieve a balance between theory and practice.
Debbie Miller
Consultant
Debbie is a strategic corporate executive with over 15 years’ experience in transformational change and improving operational and business performance. She is a communications specialist, with expertise in change management and has extensive experience using ADKAR within and across government.
She has proven success in developing and maintaining stakeholder engagement across government, private enterprise and the not-for-profit sector improving business operations through innovation, process redesign and workforce transformation.
Debbie recently led the development and implementation of a workforce redesign in the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. This included lifting employee capability, the redesign of end to end processes within the corporate area and change activities across the Department.
In 2018, she led major reforms across the Australian Public Service (APS), which included the development of a Cabinet Submission setting out the Productivity Roadmap for the APS and a large interagency project that scoped the development of a future of work online portal. The role included oversight over a range of projects relating APS reforms, the development whole of APS policies and procedures, and communications to a wide range of stakeholders.
Debbie’s key skills include negotiating large scale commercial agreements, communications, coaching, developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships and Human Resource functions including strategy development.
Debbie’s core competencies were gained during her time as senior manager at the Department of Health, the Australian Public Service Commission and within the ACT Government. She has held numerous roles across the public sector including leadership of legislative reforms, secretariat roles supporting independent reviews and the oversight of projects delivered by the states and territories.
Adam Phelan
Consultant
Adam is a highly experienced corporate executive with 20 years’ experience in communications, transformational change and improving operational and business performance.
He specialises in corporate governance and has proven success in developing reports and communications for government, Boards and senior Executives.
His core competencies were gained in senior management roles at Airservices Australia. First, as the senior communications adviser to the Chief Executive Officer, Adam was accountable for the development and implementation of communications strategies, including speech writing, online social media campaigns and the preparation of responses to public issues.
He was subsequently promoted to the Chief of Staff, the chief strategic advisor and confidante of the Chief Executive Officer, primarily managing the interface with the Executive team and key external stakeholders including government, Defence, suppliers, customers and industry leaders. He specialised in crisis, reputation and issues management, and oversaw the delivery of key programs and strategic initiatives that delivered cultural and performance improvements across the organisation.
Prior to working at Airservices, Adam was selected as Australia’s representative to Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation, (CANSO), a global advocacy group based in Europe. In this role, he was accountable for promoting environmental best practice in the aviation sector, including leading a global team of environmental specialists to devise strategies and deliver a program of work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the industry.
Key achievements included the successful implementation of global media and communications strategies that involved the delivery of presentations and thought leadership campaigns to influence global policies and government decision making.
Stephanie Taylor

Stephanie is recognised for her collaborative leadership style and her ability to make the complex simple, and the simple engaging. With a background in Management Consulting, Stephanie has worked across Australia and the UK with global services firms to support organisations in the design, development and delivery of large-scale transformation and change programs to drive business outcomes.
Stephanie has garnered her experience from working with some of Australia and Europe’s largest technology companies, telecommunication providers, insurance providers and not for profits across the project lifecycle to deliver transformational change.
Stephanie provides expertise on designing and delivering end to end change programs with a focus on building capabilities for a future workforce. With agility and adaptability at the heart of business needs, Stephanie is experienced in removing barriers to change, embedding real cultural change in organisations and driving the realisation of business benefits.
